Overview
E-learning doesn’t always have to be serious – sometimes, adding a little humor and self-discovery can make learning more engaging and memorable. The “What’s Your Flavor?” Personality Quiz is a fun, interactive experience designed in Articulate Storyline, guiding learners through a series of quirky lifestyle questions to reveal their unique “flavor” personality.
With a hidden scoring system, dynamic triggers, and engaging visuals, this quiz is more than just entertainment – it’s a structured learner journey that demonstrates how personality-based interactions can be used in training and education.
Inspiration & Concept
I wanted to break away from traditional e-learning formats and create something that felt personal, unexpected, and fun. The idea came from a simple question:
“What if you could uncover insights about yourself through seemingly random choices?”
From there, I designed a personality-based quiz that not only entertains but also subtly encourages self-reflection.
Development Process
Balancing Fun with Structure
The first challenge was ensuring the quiz felt playful yet had a meaningful structure. I didn’t want it to be a typical, predictable personality quiz – where users could easily guess their outcome.
Solution: I carefully crafted a scoring system behind the scenes. Instead of just categorizing people into obvious personality types, I designed a hidden variable system that gradually built up scores for different personality outcomes based on their choices.

Creating a Seamless, Dynamic Experience
I wanted the quiz to feel fluid and intuitive, but an issue arose: what happens if two personality types have the same score? If the logic wasn’t refined, learners might get inconsistent results or even errors.
Solution: I developed a tie-breaker system using priority ranking. If multiple results had the same score, the quiz would prioritize the personality that best aligned with the learner’s overall answers. I also added conditional triggers to ensure the right outcome was always displayed.
Keeping Users Engaged from Start to Finish
Another challenge was ensuring users stayed engaged throughout the quiz. Since it wasn’t a traditional training module, I needed to maintain momentum and prevent drop-off.
Solution: I incorporated quirky, relatable questions that felt more like a fun conversation than a test. Instead of dry, traditional questions, I asked things like:
“How do you organize your kitchen – Perfectly arranged or a creative mess?”
This approach made the quiz entertaining, while still encouraging self-reflection.

Refining the User Flow
In early testing, I noticed that some users hesitated after answering the first few questions – they weren’t sure what to expect next.
Solution: I adjusted the progression flow to build anticipation, adding small design tweaks like visual transitions and feedback animations to create a sense of movement and excitement.
